Another cracking game of IABSM last night at the Mid Somerset Wargamers.

This was a fictitious scenario, set in Normandy, whereby a German grenadier company had to hold the bridge for as long as possible (major victory) to allow retreating troops to get across, or blow it (minor victory) to stop the Americans pushing ahead.

The German forces consisted of:

  • 1 grenadier company with 3 platoons

  • 2x PaK 40s

  • 2x H39

  • 2x StuG G

The Americans were tasked with taking the bridge and capturing the crossroad.

Their force consisted of:

  • 1 mech company with 3 platoons.

  • 1 M8 Scot

  • 7 Shermans split into two groups.

The American players advanced slowly and were shot up somewhat on the way in. This gave the Germans time to set the charges and blow the bridge.

However, the Americans could cross the river, albeit with significant movement penalties, and managed to push the town.

All in all, a good game and will be used as the basis for the next scenario.

One thing we have found from our recent game of that the French tanks can take some what of a pasting and still offer some solid support.
