The German infantry company of 1939 was very different from the one that would later march into France and the Low Countries. Infantry squads were bigger, and there were less machine guns available; and almost everything was horse-drawn rather than remotely motorised.

What has been interesting is seeing how my generic "early war German" collection has translated into a force for the Polish campaign...
