TFL Painting Challenge: TGIF Update

The end of a long week, and just time to pop in a quick update to the painting challenge. In no particular order we have:

  • Carole, with two entries: some ACW terrain and standard bearers, and the first of her imagination troops
  • The Mad Padre sends in an excellent Anglo-Saxon house and a couple of riders to defend it
  • Chris Gilbride enters some gladiators and a biscuit tin...but, unlike last time someone sent in a biscuit tin, this one counts!
  • Stumpy is still re-basing Zulus like mad
  • Steve Burt sends in some Bronze Age civilians
  • Matt Slade with three entries: some ECW casualties, some British Nappies, and some rather nice paired Wild West figures
  • I Am Bruce submits a mixture of 28mm figures
  • and finally Mervyn gets ready for some Sharp Practice with his Indian Mutiny figures

Today's pictures:

TFL Painting Challenge: Another Big One!

Things are really hotting up here: I can't leave updating the challenge longer than a few days before my inbox starts bursting with new entries!

So, today, in no particular order, we have:

  • Carole with some ACW figures in 15mm
  • Chris Stoesen also in 15mm, but with figures for the AWI rather than the ACW
  • Mr Naylor returns with four buildings and some Austrians
  • The acronyms are flying everywhere, as Kev pops in a couple of units for his ECW collection
  • The Great Gatzemeyer sends in some lovely half-tracks...and my money is on it being earlier than August!
  • Mervyn has built a couple of buildings
  • Sapper has gone mad for Vikings: fifty-four of them to be exact
  • and finally Stumpy has been re-basing like mad: Fallschirmjaegers, Zulu War Brits, and some civilians for Sharp Practice

Today's pictures are as follows:

TFL Painting Challenge: Big Update

Good work on the brush front: plenty of entries coming in every week. Here's a large one from after the bank holiday:

  • "I Am Bruce" is back, with a collection of Arthurian figures
  • Kev "Fat Wally" adds to his ECW collection
  • Matt Slade goes all LOTR, with a side order of chips
  • Egg has gone moderns-mad, sending in forty 15mm AFVs
  • Steve Burt enters some more Egyptians and some farm animals
  • Mr Plowman takes a break from his exquisite sci-fi figures and sends in some walls
  • Andrew Helliwell rescues more Soviets from the flea market
  • and finally Chris Stoesen pops in some infantry...and an outhouse to take care of their baser needs

A couple of the usual suspects for today's pictures:

Some of Egg's lovely moderns

Kev's Parliamentarian Dragoons

TFL Painting Challenge: Update

With the weather all over the place, it's nice to have a constant to rely on...so here's today's painting challenge update!

In no particular order we have:

  • Mark Luther with some more 6mm 'planes
  • Egg comes in from the cold with some 15mm Soviets and Americans
  • The hat (Lloyd Bowler) sends in three 28mm units
  • Mr Helliwell paints some Prussians and rescues some Soviets from a flea market
  • Kev, our beloved Fat Wally, moves from X-Wing to the English Civil War
  • Treadhead has some more Napoleonics finished...likely to be the last we see of him for a bit (twins, not jail).
  • Jon Yuengling pops in some more 15mm WW2 kit (I'm still vacillating about that Kfz 13)
  • and, finally, the Mad Padre has finished another two bases of 6mm Napoleonic cavalry

Today's pics are another mixed bag. So many to choose from...

Better put a couple of these in!

TFL Painting Challenge: Unprecedented Second Update!

Well this is a first for this year: so many new entries into the painting challenge that I have had to do a second update this week or run the risk of getting too far behind!

In no particular order, we have:

  • Carole with, you guessed it, yet more Confederates
  • Matt Slade with some wagons and some truly impressive Prussians, all for Sharp Practice 2, released this weekend
  • The Mad Padre, with some 6mm cavalry
  • Mr Plowman, with more 15mm aliens and three strangely familiar 28's
  • Jason Ralls bursts back into life with a large and mixed entry
  • Richard Naylor posts some trees, lots of trees
  • Steve Burt continues to build his Ancients
  •  Andrew Duffell also gets back into the swing of thing with some 28's, including a very nice tank
  • and finally Mervyn makes his regular contribution: more Ancients

That would be a big update even if it weren't the second this week. Makes me quite jealous...and determined to finish the four units/buildings I have on the painting table!

Today's pictures? See below...

TFL Painting Challenge: Big Post-Salute Update

Haven't updated the challenge for a few days, so lots of submissions waiting to be processed. So, in no particular order, we have:

  • Mr Luther with three handfuls of 6mm 'planes and some more terrain for Malaya
  • Andrew Helliwell with some more Confederates in 15mm
  • Carole, also with some 15mm Confederates
  • Andrew McCarthy with an assortment of specialist teams for his WW2 British in 15mm
  • Mr Burt with some Egyptians in 28mm
  • Mervyn pops in an oasis...or is it a lake?
  • Thomas sends in a cheeky fantasy foursome
  • Mr Hodge enters some basing for his minions (or rather, Minions)
  • and finally Owen sends in a plethora of fantasy figures, all in 28mm

Today's pictures are of Mr Luther's terrain for Malaya and, of course, Derek's Minions:

TFL Painting Challenge: Update for the Saturday Before Salute

Everyone is obviously clearing their painting tables in preparation for stocking up at Salute next weekend!

In no particular order, we have:

  • Carole with some Confederates and Civilian-types
  • Mr Naylor with some Iraqis
  • Double G pops in some Hearthguard
  • WillieB enters two battalions of 28mm Napoleonics...and they are his leftovers!
  • Egg appears for the first time this year: some 15mm WW2 French
  • Steve enters the last of the Mo-Parthians
  • and Mervyn sends in a couple of 1:48 tanks and some 15mm hills

Today's pics?  I think Carole's civilians (I'm a great fan of tail, as it were); some of WilleB's French; Steve's Parthians and one of Mervyn's 28mm AFVs:

Carole's civilian-types:  Blah-blah, baa-baa, oink-oink!

TFL Painting Challenge: Another Big Update!

The entries for this year's challenge are flooding in!

Today we have:

  • Doug Fitch with various WW2 German figures in 15mm for use with the Blenneville or Bust! scenario pack (I'll look forward to receiving your AARs for publication on this site!)
  • Carole has been painting houses rather than figures: six of them to be precise
  • Mr Luther has been churning out impressive amounts of jungle terrain for the Pacific. He's looking at Malaya, so doubtless loved my Slim River AAR and the Fall of the Lionsgate scenario pack
  • Chris Stoesen pops in some AWI figures
  • Kev sends in another brilliantly painted X-Wing spacecraft. This one is painted de-cloaking: looks amazing.
  • Sapper keeps us traditional with a couple of large 28mm Ancients units pictured in action at Roll Call.
  • Owen sends in loads of figures from a fanyasy setting that, for the moment, escapes me
  • Mr Helliwell demonstrates that particular breed of madness with which we are all familiar: he has now painted, and is still painting, more Confederate infantry than will fit on his tabletop
  • The Mad Padre sends in his first entry of the year: some rather nice Unionists in 28mm
  • And finally Mr Hodge sends in some more bases (obviously), a few 15's, and what he claims are the last of his GwÅ·r y Gogledd for Dux Britanniarum. We shall see...

Phew! Now, pictures:

Scorecard will be updated tonight.

TFL Painting Challenge: Huge Post-Trip Update

Just back from a week north of the border, and have returned to find my inbox brimming with entries into this year's challenge.

Here are today's updates in, as always, no particular order:

  • Doug Melville with a huge 6mm War of the Spanish Succession entry
  • Koen makes his first appearance of the year with some 28mm French for Dien Bien Phu, some 28mm WW2 infantry, and some 28mm fantasy types
  • Kev pops in a few more spacecraft for X-Wing
  • Thomas joins Koen on the Dien Bien Phu front
  • Another massive entry from Carole: aliens and ACW
  • Mervyn sends in some zombies and some bats
  • Mr Helliwell posts some more of his 15mm Rebs
  • Owen ends in a mixed bag of a ship, some 15mm cavalry and some 28mm infantry
  • Lloyd Bowler shows us his Warlord Romans
  • Stumpy has masses of 28mm British WW2 infantry and some tanks
  • and last but my no means least, Steve Burt sends in some more cataphract types

Well that's taken me more than an hour to sort!

Today's pictures are from Carole, some of her Kra'vak; from Doug, some of his 6mm figures; and from Steve, some cataphracts:

Doug's British Dragoons and Horse for the WSS in 6mm

Carole's Kra'vak command in 15mm

Steve's Cataphracts in 28mm

TFL Painting Challenge: Update

This year's challenge is ticking along nicely: plenty of people sending in their achievements on a regular basis. Here's this week's batch:

  • Carole sends in two entries: some more alien Kra'vak, and some American Civil War troops for Sharp Practice v2
  • Mervyn also sends in two entries: some Gallic cavalry and some more 19th C Egyptians
  • Steve Burt has twelve Parthians to add to his collection
  • Mr Yuengling adds more to his Normandy forces
  • Ralph Plowman sends in a small but beautifully formed set of White Dragon Miniatures
  • and, finally, Mr Luther returns to the fold with some more 6mm aeroplanes

Today's picture is of Mr Burt's Parthians and Mr Douglas' Gallic cavalry:

Plenty of time to get your entries in, especially if you have entered in the past but have yet to do so this year. So come on, get painting and get photographing!

TFL Painting Challenge: Sunday Afternoon Update

A fairly quiet week in the painting challenge, but still enough to justify a cheeky Sunday afternoon update.

In no particular order, we have:

  • Carole taking a break from her sci-fi with some 19th Century figures for Sharp Practice 2
  • Andrew McCarthy with lots of WW2 kit, also in 15mm
  • Matt Slade is also WW2, but 28mm: some very fine Artizan Germans
  • Mr Naylor goes 20mm, with three Soviet AFVs
  • It's back to WW2, somewhere near Caen, for Mr Yuengling
  • And finally the great Gatzemeyer sends in some Anglo-Danish

Today's pics? Mr Naylor's Soviets and the Double G's Anglo-Danish warband:

TFL Painting Challenge: Quick Tuesday Update

Quick Tuesday update for the TFL Painting Challenge, including two first-of-the-year entries.

In no particular order, we have:

  • Dave Humm, the first first-of-the-year, with some nice Confederates and a terrible pun
  • Mr Plowman paints some Robo Monkeys...must be for Q13
  • Carole's entry, lots of aliens, is definitely for Q13, because she says so
  • Andrew Helliwell pops in another regiment of 15mm Confederates
  • Mr Douglas has some more Ancient Brits on offer
  • and finally, Owen, the second of the firsts, has a mix of fantasy figures

We'll go Reb for today's pics:

Andrew Helliwell's Confederate infantry

TFL Painting Challenge: Another Big One!

I wasn't expecting to do another update before the weekend, but so many entries have come in that, if I don't, I run the risk of being overwhelmed!

So, in no particular order, we have:

  • Doug Fitch with lots of 15mm WW2 goodness
  • A first entry in 2016 from Paul Baldwin: terrain, infantry and cavalry
  • Mr Clarke sends in a huge entry of twelve house and two outhouses in 28mm
  • Thomas Nissvik also makes his first appearance this year, with ten rather nice 28mm Vietminh infantry
  • Mr "Hat" Bowler attempts to claim 600 sq ft of painted and primed basement floor...but has to settle for the 105 28mm Romans and a ballista that actually count towards his total
  • Carole attempts to complete her Corporate Ashigaru force with another platoon and their support weapons
  • Neil Hooge is another 'first time in 2016' entry: he sends in some (great sounding) 15mm British Victorian infantry mounted on terror birds and ostriches...but the piccy is so dark you can't see the detail :(
  • And finally Jon Yuengling pops in four 15mm WW2 vehicles for his early war Germans.

Today's pics are from Mr Fitch, some of his WW2 Germans; Mr Baldwin, his Napoleonic French infantry; and from Thomas, his Vietminh:

TFL Painting Challenge: Huge Tuesday Update

An absolutely enormous update today!

In no particular order, we have:

  • Mr Hodge is continuing to morph into a "baser" rather than a wargamer, with a massive amount of sabot bases
  • Carole sends in two entries: all 15mm sci-fi figures from GZG. We've got three platoons of infantry, support drones, command...the lot
  • Mr Douglas pops in a couple of 15mm units: some Sudan types and some more ancient Brits
  • Ralph Plowman also goes 15mm GZG, painted so inspirationally that I've had to go out and buy a platoon's worth myself. He should be on commission!
  • Andrew Helliwell stays with his Soviets: a platoon's worth and some lend-lease carriers
  • Sapper sends in three entries comprising a large total of 28mm figures: Samurai and Seven Years War
  • Steve Burt submits some rather lovely Parthians. It must have been baking hot in all that armour.
  • Our glorious leader, Mr Clarke, sends in three entries this week, all from the AWI, and adding up to a most impressive total
  • and finally I'm loving Mr Davenport's entry: Napoleonic Brits in numbers, and also some AWI infantry

So many entries to choose from for today's photos...but here's a selection. You can see the whole lot in the individual's galleries.

Jon's Napoleonic Brits

Scorecard will be updated tonight..honest, it will!

  • Mark Luther sends in an assortment of 20mm Far East types, and some of his little 'planes too

TFL Painting Challenge: Entries Flooding In!

Loads of entries again today: excellent work everybody!

In no particular order, we have:

  • Stumpy with a teeny bit of re-basing and a very nice Rourke's Drift lavatory
  • Chris Stoesen makes a welcome return with a building in 15mm
  • Ms Flint adds some bugs. I rather like them, and might get some myself
  • Mervyn goes up a couple of sizes with some Riders of Rohan
  • Mr Clarke, the man himself, pops in more than a handful of 28mm figures
  • Matt Slade makes his usual modest entry: 52 goblins and (in a Sheffield accent) a cave troll
  • Richard Naylor finishes his Egyptians and adds their mummy...I mean, adds a mummy
  • Mr Helliwell turns Russian, with a Soviet infantry platoon and supporting SU-122
  • And Mr Ralls proves he is still with us for this year's challenge with a mighty entry of various 28s

Today's pictures are one from Mr Clarke (I know which side my bread is buttered) and one from Mr Ralls:

He didn't say who they were, but here are some nice 28s from Mr Clarke

And here are Jason Ralls' Teutonic Knights. I do love a bit of Teutonic Knight!

TFL Painting Challenge: Big Update

It seems like the end of January has driven you all out of hibernation: lots of entries submitted over the last few days.

In no particular order, we have:

  • Mr Naylor, with some Fez-wearing Egyptians
  • Mr Duffell joins us again with some In-juns and a few WW2 chaps as well

  • Derek Hodge is another come-back king: with some nice looking guerillos and a host of re-based fantasy stuff
  • Sapper pops in some more Ancients
  • Mr Plowman sends in some great-looking sci-fi figures from Shapeways
  • And finally Kev continues his crusade to field every possible X-Wing spacecraft possible with another fleet's worth of entries

  • Mr Douglas with three separate entries in the same week, including some re-basing

  • And finally Richard Naylor sends in some more terrain: rocks and a yards worth of graves.

Three pics today as I can't decide between them:
